Highlight from Bizzy Crochet Interview Why I sometimes want to burn it all down
I couldn't figure out the problem I keep encountering until watching you spin from your rolag. Twist was somehow making its way into my rolag, causing a "traffic jam" with the fiber. I thought I wasn't pinching hard enough when guiding the twist from spinning up towards my drafting triangle. I noticed you kept letting your rolag (the spinning wheel one) flop around itself counterclockwise, and now I know what my problem is and what's causing it. Because a rolag is rolled and it's like a little tornado, the act of spinning tightens the twist (from the wheel) and translates it to your rolag essentially making it get tighter or more dense/thick. I noticed you letting that energy move through and out of the rolag by letting it naturally roll over the back of your hand. I typically spin worsted and micro lace weight from roving (the fibers are all parallel to one another). I'm wanting to learn woolen to try and spin thicker to an SK (2-ply). I've finally mastered making rolags but kept encountering problems on the spinning side. Watching this video helped me identify the problem! Thank you for your video! P.S. I love your voice (accent)/hearing you speak. 😊
Hi Erin, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️❣️ Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast, showing how to use an Art Braid ( don't know what ele to call it). I love both your Single Handspun Yarn and the 2 Ply Handspun Yarn. Glad that you had the Braid to show, I wouldn't have known that they were from the same Braid. I know I've tried a couple of Ashley's techniques, loved the one using Glitter and Hairspray in an Art Batt. It's surprising what Art Batts I could do with just a Blending Board. 🎉🎉 Happy Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🎡🧶🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe Love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂🐑🐑
Hi Erin I am looking at buying a King Bee and am having trouble finding if the 3D printed bobbin pattern on their site will fit on it. Do you know? Thank you so much. Edit: sorry I did find it. Looks like only is a 4oz bobbin.
This is great info to remember. I'm preparing to start my small fiber business and this is very important to me. I want to be reliable and consistent!
from Gerry- You yarn has a good balance of fluff and texture. I like it. God bless.
Thank you so much!💕
I love your book! Thanks for these tips too <3
So glad! Thanks for saying!
Congratulations on the book!!! ✨🥳✨
Thank you so much ❤
Very quick to get to the point. Thank you!❤
You're welcome!
This was great!1 awesome video.
Thanks so much!
Planning to try spinning art yarns for Tour de Fleece this year on my Electric Eel. going to try some of your suggestions and classes. Thank you.
Have fun!
Just doing a bit of research on them and fpund your video. Seems they were also used to ply hemp rope.
I can totally see that 💕
I love making and spinning art batts! It’s fun watching other people make art batts and spin from them.
Me too! I love all the textures
I'm just subscribing. I saw a TikTok live where UP adventures was spinning a braid from your club. ❤
Awesome thanks so much.
Hi, I have watched your videos on the Spinolution Wheels. I am interested in the Bullfrog. My question is do they make a sliding hook flyer? thanks.
There is pauleywinder check out my SpinOlution play list on this channel or email me at erin@feralscene.com and I’ll shoot you videos and info.
I have a Kromski Sonata, and sometimes I wonder if another wheel would work better for certain yarns. What has your experience with the Spinolution been like?
I’m a dealer and have almost all The wheels. It’s safe to say I’ve had a good experience. I’m happy to answer any questions for you. You can see all the models here feralscene.com/spinolution
I like spinning art yarn more than I like spinning normal yarn.
It’s more fun for sure
Love this video - thank you for posting it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, I want to start spinning again and you have inspired me. My wheel is getting dusty!
I’m so glad to hear.
I want some of that fiber! 💜

I just found you. I have trouble finding the right speed for my feet. Do you have any additional tips on how to find the right speed? I often go too fast.
I go too fast too. Really just larger gears and being mindful, and not watching tense movies. 😆
I fell in love with Echo, but I wanted a travel wheel and Echo would maybe be too big in the small space at a Guild meeting. I also like the traditional look rather than the more futuristic look of the bees. The web page currently doesn’t mention package or price. So, is this a travel wheel as opposed to Echo?
Hey sorry I'm just seeing this, The Bullfrog is a travel wheel but it looks like an echo you can find it here. feralscene.com/spinolution/bullfrog
how can i buy this machine?

Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing!! I have been looking at learning fractal spinning.
Glad it was helpful! I have some more videos on this channel on the topic too. Also spinning content on my site www.craftyhousewifeyarns.com/courses
How much$ is the Abe?
starts at $595 you can see all the options here feralscene.com/spinolution
Very informative about the different dying styles of braids and how you would spin them. Thank you.
I'm so glad you liked it!
So what would you use your spinned yarn for in that fine?
lots of pattern ideas for handspun here feralscene.com/patterns
can you re spin yarn to make it thinner in case you made it to thick at first?
not really once the twist is in the fiber you can't un do it and start over. I always recommend learning on not your favorite fancy fiber
@@Feralscene thats what I am trying to figure out what to start with so I don't mess up good fibers Thank you so much
@@EsteeDarla I recommend this roving off of knit picks I feel like it's hard to find on their website maybe it's just me. I always end up googling it. It's a good affordable pretty beginner roving. Pulls apart easily. Then when you feel good about your spinning get something softer. www.knitpicks.com/yarn/wool-of-the-andes-roving/c/5420212 Good luck!
@@Feralscene thank you so much
great
This video just happened across my feed. A few hours ago I came home with an entire alpaca blanket, skirted for show, ridiculously clean, and absolutely gorgeous. I was pondering on how to process it as I’ve never washed raw alpaca before. I’ve never washed ANY raw fibre before. All the fibre I’ve ever spin was clean, and either carded or combed. I’m now sitting on my couch picking the very few guard hairs out of those super soft, beautiful, dark caramel locks and have to use a strong lamp to even find them. I’m still picking them out as my daughter, who is getting to wear my first finished project from this batch of fibre, has high functioning autism and her main sensory issue is scratchy or itchy garments. Now I’m seriously considering only picking out the guard hairs and perhaps lightly flicking at the locks with a brush, then seeing how it spins up. So… THANK YOU!
sorry for the slow reply , hope it went well for you!
@@Feralscene - It spins like a dream! 😊
My stuff isn’t twisting. I’ll get a good twist in it, drafting as I go, and when I set it down (after working the spin up further into drafted pieces) I come back later and it’s unspun itself back into drafted roving.
how thick of fiber are you using? I think I had that problem at first and I was spinning really thick yarn by default when I first started. Can you try drafting it down a bit thinner to get more twist? Come post a video or picture in my Facebook group facebook.com/groups/craftyhousewifeyarnlove RUclips doesn't get notifications to me very quickly.
What wheel are you using? TY
it is a spinolution bullfrog feralscene.com/spinolution/bullfrog
I’m 83 and just learning. I thought a bottom whirl might be better for me.
I have a Facebook group we'd love to see what you're working on. facebook.com/groups/craftyhousewifeyarnlove
Wow, what a difference. Thank you so much!
Thanks. I was blessed by getting a barely used Lendrum at a great price, and as a folding wheel with interchangeable attachments for all possible yarn thickness l am also happy to know l am covered, should a traveltime come my way too😊
Super informative! You troubleshot a lot of my issues on my Louet S10. Qhwre do you recommend a new spinner to by combed top? And what is roving top btw? I see that listed a lot too. Thanks!
So glad that helped sorry for the slow reply. I feel like top and roving top get used interchanged. I have some great made in the USA spinning fiber subscriptions and products here feralscene.com/fiber-arts-subscriptions
Anything Spinolution is highly expensive so really comparing the two is like comparing and RV and a skyscraper penthouse. I don't believe a person would be trying to decided between the two. The "floor spindle" is for a need for a less expensive spinning option primarily. And as previously stated Spinolution is ANYTHING but "less expensive". Someone below mentioned a EEW 6 and that could probably realistically compare to the "floor spindle" Thanks for the video.
Hello that is a lovely fiber! I was watching this short mainly to see how the Abe spins and it looked like it was rocking back and forth a lot. Is that just the camera angle or does it move when spinning. I am in the market for my first treadle spinning wheel and the Abe is one of the top contenders. However I want a wheel that is solid when spinning.
honestly I probably hadn't done a great job of tightening it down all the way. I had taken it apart and put it back together several times at this point. I do prefer the bases on the Bullfrog.
Hi! New subscriber here from Across the Pond. In England. I’m not even a spinner yet -having my lesson on drop spindle spinning in a couple of weeks . I’m an avid knitter though. Just popping in to say hi and then I’m getting back to your video from 4 years ago which came up in my recommendations here in YT. It’s the one on the big floor spindle. See ya later! 😅👋
Good luck!! Learning to spin can be so fun. I have a lot of material here and some here too craftyhousewifeyarns.com/courses
Thank you 1000x you gave me so much clarity on how to “prep” the fiber to start i had a few ah ha moments and appreciate this video 🖤
Glad it was helpful! I have a lot of fiber arts info her too craftyhousewifeyarns.com/courses
Do oil your winder for better turning and a more pleasant video .
There is no coupon for a free farm braid to go with the Drop Spindle course on your website. This is the only way I could find to contact you.
It is inside the course.
How do you create the balls?
I just wrap the around with my hands off of the spindle once it's done. You could then use a niddy noddy to make the ball a skein if you wanted.
How to hold your fibre when spinning: I was struggling with this until a friend with years of experience told me: “Hold your fibre in your drafting hand as if it’s a wounded baby bird. Firm enough to make sure it can’t escape - but just barely enough so.” It worked. She also told me: bad prep is the most frequent source of spinning issues in general. For spindle spinning, you can add using a spindle that’s either too heavy or too light for the yarn you want to make. I believe she’s right. 😊
the baby bird description is spot on.
Looks like a fun interview!
Wondering who you're talking to off screen. It's odd to feel like an eavesdropper.
I know this isn't couple years old but, if you have a problem with the yarn going wild when plying, turn your bobbins so that the little plastic piece is pointing up. It's like a built in tensioner because the bobbins sit flat onto the wood. I haven't noticed any scratches or anything, but I'd suggest putting a coat of polyurethane or wax on the bottom of the bobbins after a while if they start looking a little scuffed. I've been using my lazy Kate like that for over a year and haven't noticed any.
So excited for our Conquer Cable Knitting Workshop, the kits are so much fun!!
I always loved the idea of My Local Wool and having a way to connect with farms and things nearby. I live in a super rural area but finding contact info for local wool suppliers is pretty nonexistent, most of them probably are not advertising online. People are going to find something to complain about no matter what you do, you just have to keep doing what you are doing. CHY is my favorite fiber suppliers and you do such amazing work helping people learn to spin!
